Victim restitution

Victim restitution

A broken waiting game

My home was broken into and thousands of dollars worth of stuff was taken. With some devine intervention the robbers were caught (a 19-year-old mother of three and her 34-year-old on-parole boyfriend).

Like a great martyr ledgends are made of, she told police she acted alone in her break-ins of my place, a church and a few cars. The charges were dropped against her man. At the courthouse, Judge Greg Nakamura sentenced her to five long years of probation and also to pay restitution to all her victims.

My losses amounted to $3,500. Shortly thereafter, I phoned the court to ask when I will start to get the pay back.

The woman at the court started laughing and told me how it works. I’m still waiting for my restitution, waiting … waiting … waiting — since 1992.

Water supply

Billing statement

Has anyone else noticed the message at the bottom of their water bill?

Be prepared to be screwed by the Water Department.

It says: “Important notice — Effective immediately, we will no longer issue courtesy abnormal reading notices. All customers are responsible for monitoring and maintaining all plumbing on their side of meter.”

What? I always have been responsible for my side of the meter, but I may not always know of a hidden problem.

As an example, a few months ago a large pipe in the irrigation broke and was running a large amount of water at the back of the lot under a cover of trees and debris. Had they not told me of a large increase in use, it would have gone on two more months and cost me more than $300.

That system runs at 3 a.m., so even a spout of water would not have been evident in that area —unless you were standing there.

This seems grossly unfair to the customer. Is water aupply going to let us ignore overages we don’t know about?

C’mon, water supply, get real.

Plus, how many people even know where their meter is?

And do you want to stand in the road to get a reading every month to “monitor” use?

Coral graffiti

Enough, already

OMG, enough already about the coral graffiti.

Everyone is not going to ever agree on this subject, so give it up and let’s move on to the next topic that no one will agree upon.
